New Delhi 23 December (KNB): Union Minister for Law and Justice, Ravi Shankar Prasad, today in a press conference at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi said that several candidates among independents who won 39 seats in DDC elections are BJP supporters.
He further said that the BJP has emerged as the single largest party in DDC election in Jammu and Kashmir with the 74 seats and highest number of votes, i.e. 4.87 lakhs.
“The People Alliance for Gupkar Declaration was formed because the component of that alliance knew they could not fight BJP single-handedly,” said Prasad during the press conference.
He further gave details of seats won by the different political parties and stressed that independent candidates who won 49 seats among which several are BJP supporters.
He also said that BJP’s vote count of 4,87,364 is bigger than the votes secured by National conference (2,82,514), People Democratic Party (57,789) and Congress (1,39,382). “I am satisfied and happy that lotus has blossomed in the valley,” Prasad said.
He said that a slap has been placed on the face of extremists, separatists and others after the voting taking place in areas like Kulgam (28.9 per cent), Shopian (17.5 per cent) and especially Pulwama, a hotbed of militancy, has recorded 7.4 per cent. He further mentioned that a Sopore, which was occupied with the militancy activities once, has recorded a voting percentage of 23.8.
Prasad also said that the voters came out to draw their votes because people saw for the first time an honest election taking place on ground in a democracy. (KNB)
