Second Phase of Vaccine Drive Starts; PM Modi Takes First Dose

New Delhi 1 March (KNB): As second phase of nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive commenced today, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi took his first jab at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) hospital, New Delhi.

Prime Minister Modi became the first beneficiary in the second phase of vaccination drive.
“Took my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at AIIMS,” PM said in a tweet, adding, “Remarkable how our doctors and scientists have worked in quick time to strengthen the global fight against COVID-19.”

He further made an appeal to all those who are eligible to take the vaccine and said, “Together, let us make India COVID-19 free!”

Moreover, in the second phase of vaccination drive, people above 60 years and those aged above 45 years with comorbidities are eligible to receive the vaccination shots.

Officials said that the eligible people can register and book an appointment for vaccination online, using the Co-WIN 2.0 portal or though other IT applications such as Arogya Setu.

Pertinent to mention that the two vaccines going to be used in the drive are Covishield, developed by Oxford-AstraZeneca and manufactured by SII, and Covaxin, developed and manufactured by Bharat Biotech. (KNB)
