Srinagar 16 December (KNB): Several employees of the State Bank of India (SBI) on Thursday morning staged a protest in Srinagar against the government’s intent to privatise two public sector banks in this year.
The protest from employees of SBI came to mark the two-day nationwide strike being observed across India from today against the government’s intention of privatisation of two public sector lenders.
The protesting employees of SBI said that they are holding the protest against the forthcoming bill to privatise the Public Sector Banks. “This bill is not only anti-employees, but it is also anti-people. The general public would also face problems by this bill, and we appeal to people to participate in this protest with us,” said one of the protesting employees.
“Government wants its ownership, which they have in Public Sector Banks, to be sold to corporate houses. The effect of this decision would be that the money protected in the Public Sector Banks would remain under the control of corporate houses,” the employee said.
He further said that with this incoming bill, the bank’s overriding function of credit flow to the economy would also be controlled by the corporate houses in the future. “So, it will have its repercussions on the general public as well,” he added. (KNB)
