Srinagar, June 4(KNB): The ongoing drainage work carried out by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has brought immense hardship to the residents of Tawheed Bagh and Arco Residency in Srinagar. For over a month, the area has been plagued by an open drain, causing immense inconvenience to the residents.
The situation has become so dire that residents are finding it difficult to move around, and medical emergencies have become a major concern alleged locals of Tawheed Bagh.
While talking to news agency Kashmir News Bureau-KNB, Former Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohammad Aslam, strongly criticized the SMC’s handling of the situation, stating that it’s inhumane and unacceptable to keep an entire population “encaged” for such a prolonged period.
“The lack of alternate arrangements is unacceptable,” Aslam said. “If someone falls sick, we’re not in a position to take them to the hospital. How can the entire population be kept in such a state for so long?”
Despite repeated attempts to contact SMC officials, including Commissioner Owais Ahmad, there has been no response or resolution to the issue, he said.
The residents are now demanding immediate attention to their plight and a swift resolution to the drainage work.
Despite repeated calls, SMC officials couldn’t be contacted for their comments.(KNB)
