Srinagar 12 August (KNB): Residents of Kawoosa Lane HMT, falling in the outskirts of Srinagar, said on Thursday that the work had been stopped on the road in their area after a mere completion of its metalling.
The residents told to Kashmir News Bureau that they have been suffering since a drain was constructed in the area around eight months ago and no attention was being paid to the road, which was barely fit for walking, after its dilapidated condition in the wake of the drainage construction.
They said that metalling was started on the road later on, but the further work has been left undone. “The road was being improved after the laying of metalling on it but was done half-heartedly as no road-roller or anything was used to compact it,” said a local resident, Abdul Rouf, adding that “even we have also contributed money and managed to lay gravel on the road to improve the condition of it.”
He said that the work on the road should be completed fully by doing its macadamization. “If the road is left as it is now, it will for sure develop puddles with a drizzle and can be again messy and inconvenient for the residents,” said Rouf.
Other residents also said that they have talked to a few officials regarding the matter, but nothing has been done till now. “While talking to some officers, they told us that the concerned contractor is not responding to them, and others even said that the contractor had met with a mishap,” they said.
However, the locals appealed for the resumption of work on the road, which would alleviate the distress caused to them for some quite time.
On contacting Commissioner SMC Athar Aamir Khan regarding the issue, he did not respond to a call. (KNB)
