Anantnag, Jan 08 (KNB): The residents of Fatehpora Gund area of Anantnag District on Monday morning staged a protest against the department of public health engineering (PHE) against the non-availability of drinking water in the area.
The protesters including women and children assembled in the main road of Anantnag Verinag and staged a massive protest against the department of public health engineering (PHE). The residents blocked several hours main road of Anantnag Verinag road however commuters faced lot of hardships during the protest in area
The protesters were demanding restoration of the water supply in the area which is blocked for several weeks.
“We have no drinking water for past several weeks. We are forced to drink dirty water of nearby streams. The department is not doing anything to mitigate our suffering,” said Abdul Rasheed a local resident.
“We have been forced to come to the streets, so that officials hear our grievances. We hope that the administration will ensure we are provided water, otherwise we will be forced to take extreme steps,” he added.
Meanwhile when contacted to the Executive Engineer RK Pandita said that- “ I sent my team to said village may be there should be some technical fault in the water pipe in the area. Our employees are on job and hopefully they will restore water in area.” (KNB)
