Police Arrests Two Persons in South Kashmir, Recovers 27 Bags of Poppy Straw

Srinagar 12 August (KNB): Police on Thursday said that they have arrested two persons in South Kashmir who had hoarded 27 bags of Poppy Straw in a courtyard of a house, weighing around 580 Kgs.

As per police official, Police Station Bijbehara received specific information through reliable sources that a resident of Waghama Bijbehara has indulged in peddling of narcotic substances and accordingly has hoarded a large quantity of narcotic substance in his residential house. 

Police said that on receipt of this information, a team composed of SDPO Bijbehara, SHO Bijbehara DO Sangam and Executive Magistrate concerned was constituted, who carried out the search of the said house. During the search 27 bags of Poppy Straw weighing about 580 Kgs were recovered from the hideout in the courtyard of the said house.

Later the owner of the said house namely Mohd Yousuf Reshi fled away from the spot, while other two persons namely Zahid Ahmad Reshi and Aamir Ahmad Reshi Son’s of Mohd Yousuf Reshi both residents of Waghama Bijbehara were arrested on spot and contraband seized, said police. 

Accordingly, case FIR No. 226/2021 under relevant sections of NDPS Act got registered in police station Bijbehara and investigation was taken up. (KNB)
