Police Arrests Three Peddlers in Handwara & Anantnag; Heroin, Codeine Phosphate Recovered

Srinagar 17 April (KNB): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Handwara and Anantnag; recovered hard core substances.

In a statement, officials stated that in Handwara, a police party of Police Station Handwara at a checkpoint established in their jurisdiction and intercepted a vehicle (Santro) bearing registration number JK09/0504 with two persons onboard.

“They have been identified as Javid Ahmad khan son of Dulat Mohammad khan resident of Gund Chubutra and Mohd Yousf Bhat son of Abdul Aziz resident of Pingroo,” officials added.

“During checking, officers were able to recover 1 kilogram Heroin from the said vehicle,” officials stated, adding that they have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

“The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” officials stated, adding that accordingly, a case FIR No. 93/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Handwara and investigation into the matter has been initiated.

Furthermore, officials stated that in Anantnag, on specific information, In-charge Police Post Janglat Mandi along with his team at a checkpoint established at Brakpora Anantnag intercepted one person identified as Rayees Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Rasool Ganie resident of Brakpora.

On checking, 15 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered from his possession.
“He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody,” officials stated, adding that in this regard, a case FIR No. 95 /2021 under relevant sections of the law stands registered in Police Station Anantnag and investigation was initiated.

Officials also said that community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. (KNB)
