Police Arrest Extortionists in Budgam; Recovers Cash, Dummy AK-47

Srinagar 06 November (KNB): Police on Saturday said that they arrested three extortionists in central Kashmir’s Budgam district and have recovered a stolen cash and a dummy AK-47 weapon used in commission of crime.    

Officer said that on 23rd August 2021, Police Station Beerwah received a written complaint from one complainant saying that on August 22 late evening, after closing his office (Khidmat Centre), he along with his neighbour, a resident of Rawatpura were on way to home when they were stopped by some masked persons and threatened with weapon. 

It was said that the both persons were later thrashed and robbed of a cash of Rupees 1,50,000. 

“Upon this information, a case FIR number 121/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Beerwah and investigation into the matter was taken up,” police said. 

During the course of investigation, working on various leads, one suspect was called for questioning and during sustained questioning, he confessed his involvement in the commission of crime and on his disclosure, his two associates were arrested. 

It was further said that during strenuous questioning of the trio, dummy weapon (AK-47); robbed amount of Rs. 33,300 and three face covers were recovered on their disclosure from a shed constructed at orchard of one of the accused. 

During investigation it also came to fore that the dummy weapon was made and carved by one carpenter, who was also arrested.

Investigation is under way and more arrests and recoveries are expected in the said case, said Police. (KNB)
