Passport Impounded for PDP Youth President Waheed Para

Srinagar, 25 September (KNB): The Regional Passport Office in Srinagar has issued an order to impound the passport of Waheed ur Rehman Para, the 34-year-old president of the Peoples Democratic Party’s youth wing.Para has confirmed the development while talking to KNB.

The decision to impound Waheed ur Rehman Para’s passport comes just as he was preparing to embark on a journey to the United States for a peace fellowship at Yale University in September.

The action taken by the Passport Office was carried out under Section 10(3)(c) of the Passport Act of 1967. This section allows for passport impoundment in cases that are deemed to be in the “interests of the sovereignty and integrity of India, the security of India, [or] friendly relations of India with any foreign country.

Parra, the former Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council secretary, won the Pulwama DDC election from jail, received a written communication from the Regional Passport Office instructing him to submit his passport immediately if he had not already done so.

Notably, the passport of Aga Hassan, the senior Shia leader and president of Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman-E-Sharia Shian, had also been suspended by the Passport Office earlier. This suspension was attributed to security concerns, as confirmed by Aga Hassan himself with a local news agency.
