Pampore attackers identified as Lashkar militants: IGP Kashmir

Pampore 05 Oct (KNB):Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, who carried out the attack on ROP of 110 Batalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CPRF) at Kandizal near Pulwama, have been identified, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range said.

“Two militants from Lashkar-e-Toiba came on a motor bike and fired indiscriminately at the CRPF road opening party at Kandizal near Pampore. Two CRPF men died in the incident and three others sustained injuries who are stable,” IGP Kashmir.

The attackers have been identified as Saifullah, a Pakistani militant and another as a local, IGP said.

Official sources stated that among five CRPF troopers, two CRPF personnel were critically injured who were shifted to 92 Base hospital, where both of them breathed their last.

The traffic in the area was put at halt after the attack and a massive search and cordon operation was started immediately. The joint team of army’s 50 RR and police were working together to nab the Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, CRPF spokesman for operations (Kashmir), Junaid Khan said.

Officials later confirmed that search operation has been called off as militants managed to escape the area.

Regarding the exchange of fire between militants and security forces at Parinad area of Awantipore, IGP Kashmir stated, “There was an initial exchange of fire but then no contact was established thereafter.”(KNB)
