Srinagar 28 April (KNB): Amid the growing oxygen demand for Covid19 patients and rapid increase of coronavirus cases, Jammu and Kashmir administration is in the process of producing extra oxygen, with more than 6 hospitals already generating O2 besides 36 plants approved by the government to set up across the UT.

However, at present the daily supply of oxygen is in surplus to the daily consumption of the same in J&K, according to an official.

In a tweet, the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) revealed the factual position of oxygen supplies in the UT of J&K.

According to the tweet, daily consumption of oxygen in J&K currently is approximately 25000 cubic meters while the generation capacity of oxygen is 54500 cubic meters. Moreover there is additional industrial production of 30000 cubic meters per day.

DIPR also stated that the UT has ample supply of oxygen with a substantial number of oxygen cylinders.

Earlier Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad made an announcement on twitter about the successful trial of Oxygen plant at SMHS hospital and also appreciated the engineering wing while sharing the video of the workers inside the plant.

He tweeted “Trial run of new Oxygen Plant at SMHS hospital conducted successfully. From today we are adding 1000 1pm Oxygen production to the existing system at SMHS. Appreciate Team Mech Engg Deptt who worked in double shifts & have made the plant operational in 96 hours.”

Furthermore, the Central government on Sunday banned the use of “liquid oxygen” for industrial purposes, as the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in a communication to all the states and the Union Territories, made it clear that “no exception is allowed to any industry” with regard to use of the commodity, which likely would prove helpful in saving lives in UT as well.
