“One of The Oldest, Top Commander of HM Killed in Handwara Encounter” Says IGP-K

Srinagar 07 July (KNB): A top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) outfit has been killed in an Handwara encounter, which reportedly had started on the intervening night July 6 and 7.  

As per district police Handwara, the encounter started at Pazipora- Renan  area of Kralgund Handwara. The official said that the police, army and CRPF jointly carried out the operation in which Mehrazuddin Halwai alias Ubaid was killed by the forces. 

Police on Wednesday morning said that the slain militant of HM outfit was one of the oldest militants who has been killed in the Handwara encounter and said that Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Vijay Kumar has termed the killing of the militant as a big success.

IGP-K further said as per the police that the Halwai was involved in several crimes. 

“One of the oldest & top (commanders) of HM outfit Mehrazuddin Halwai @ Ubaid got neutralised in the Handwara encounter. He was involved in several terror crimes. A big success,” said Police quoting IGP Kashmir. 

Police further said that “A contemporary of HM’s notorious militant Burhan Wani. While Burhan was engaged in series of civilian/SFs killings in South Kashmir, Mehrazuddin Halwai was involved in killing of civilians/SFs in North Kashmir.” (KNB)
