No water, road, Electricity: Chowgham government school lack even basic amenities

Anantnag 06 August (KNB): According to government, the list of facilities that a school should have is long. But on the ground, most of the government-run institutions in Kashmir lack the very basic of them.




Although the stipulated time set by the Supreme Court to provide drinking water and toilets in all the government schools has expired several months ago but the Chowgham government higher secondary schools in district Anantnag is still lacking drinking and road facilities.

Talking to Kashmir News Bureau one of student said “we are suffering a lot as we don’t have drinking water facility as well as water facility which forced us to do natural call in open air.”

“Even we travel from foot to reach our school on daily basis,” he said

According to locals, In spite of several complaints from students, parents and locals, the authorities did not take action.

10th Class student said that “Due to unavailability of electricity, we are unable to do practical, and last year the result of 10th class was zero.”

“When students don’t have a proper basic facilities, you cannot expect quality education,” said Bilal Ahmad, Social Activist.


According to reports reached to Kashmir News Bureau that “There are many more schools where the toilets and drinking water facilities are either inadequate or defunct. (KNB)
