No Major Rainfall Activity For Next Week; Brief Spell of Shower with Thunderstorms May Occur in J&K

Srinagar 1 July (KNB): Meteorological Department (MeT) of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday said that there is no forecast of major rainfall activity for the next week in the Union Territory.

Director MeT J&K, Sonam Lotus said that there’s no forecast of any major rainfall for next 1 week. However, a brief spell of showers with thunderstorms may occur in both Jammu and Kashmir, especially towards late afternoon or evening hours.

Moreover, he said that weather remained mainly hot during the month of June.
“Due to absence of any strong weather system like the Western Disturbance or Monsoon, Whole J&K received deficient rainfall,” Lotus said.

He said that the highest temperature recorded during the month of June in Jammu and Srinagar was on 10th of the month. Jammu and Srinagar reported 42.7 and 34.7 degrees celsius respectively.

Director MeT J&K said that this is normal and happens every year. The highest maximum temperature recorded during the last 40 years, in these two cities, were 45.9 degrees celsius on 10-6-1995 in Jammu and 36.5 degrees celsius on 24-6-2005 in Srinagar. (KNB)
