Srinagar 15 December (KNB): Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Mohammad Aijaz Asad Wednesday, during a drive to point out the problems contributing to traffic congestion in the city, said that there is no lack of parking spaces, road width or other infrastructures but of civic sense.
While talking to reporters, DC Srinagar said that in today’s drive, the traffic department was assisted by other departments, including Revenue, SMC, and SDA. He said that the drive was conducted in Srinagar due to traffic jams complaints received from the public.
He said that minibuses were seen alighting the passengers in the middle of the road at a couple of places instead of on the side of the road. He hinted at such things adding to the traffic congestion in the city.
“We saw today after touring the city that there is no lack of parking spaces, road width or other infrastructures, but if something is lacking, it is a civic sense,” said DC.
During the drive, traffic violators were fined at different places of Srinagar after being seen driving in contravention of the traffic rules.
Regarding the recurrence of traffic jams due to encroaching on roads after conducting drives by officials, DC hinted at stepping up efforts to alleviate such problems in the future. (KNB)
