Militants Fired and Lobbed Grenades, Refused to Surrender: GoC H S Sahi on Srinagar Encounter

Srinagar 30 December (KNB): The three militants killed in an encounter in Srinagar’s outskirts at Hokersar area were offered to surrender, but fired and lobbed grenades in return on the security forces said the General officer Commanding (GoC) Kilo Force H S Sahi at 2 RR headquarters at Zainakote, HMT, Srinagar during the press briefing.

During the press briefing, the Sahi said that the three slain militants, as per the inputs, were conspiring to carry out a big attack on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway to gain publicity. He further added that the identification of militants as well as their outfit is being ascertained.

He also said that the forces parties comprising Army, Police and CRPF gird up their loins after the inputs about the presence of militants in a house opposite to the Noora hospital at Srinagar’s Lawaypora in HMT area.

However, as per Sahi, the night’s darkness halted the operation which later started early on Wednesday and completed successfully at 11:30 am, adding that the militants are choosing the Srinagar outskirts owing to its congested locality, lanes and by-lanes.

While hailing the input sources, the Sahi said they have a strong intelligence grid and would not allow any incident to happen in these areas (referring to Srinagar outskirts). He further added that the militants’ any attempt to create disturbances on the eve of 26 January would be foiled given the alertness of the security forces. (KNB)
