Says Viral Video Is Authentic, Clarifies Missing Phrase Changed Context of Her Remarks; Tenders Apology to People of Jammu and Kashmir
Srinagar, July 28(KNB): People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday clarified her remarks made during the recent Jantar Mantar protest, admitting that she had inadvertently omitted an important phrase while addressing the media and apologised to the people of Jammu and Kashmir for the mistake.
Speaking to reporters, Mehbooba said that during Omar Abdullah’s tenure as the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, he had defended the actions of security forces in Kashmir. Referring to her statement at Jantar Mantar, she said she had unintentionally left out the words, “bahana banta hai security forces ka rakhne ka,” while making her point.
She acknowledged that the omission changed the context of her remarks and described it as her own mistake. “I apologise to the people of Jammu and Kashmir for this error,” she said.
Addressing the controversy surrounding a viral clip of her speech, the PDP chief rejected claims that the video had been manipulated using artificial intelligence. She asserted that the viral video was genuine and authentic, adding that the issue arose due to her omission of the relevant phrase during her interaction with the media.
The clarification comes amid political debate over her Jantar Mantar remarks, which had triggered reactions from various political parties and social media users across Jammu and Kashmir. (KNB)
