Srinagar 1 January (KNB): To inspect the implementation of recently announced “Mask up” initiative campaign by Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to contain the spread of Covid19, the SMC commissioner, Gazanfar Ali along with SMC Secretary, Sofi Akbar and other senior officials visit the different areas of Lal Chowk up to TRC.
During the inspection, lots of shops, malls, institutions, departmental stores and banks were examined by Ali to check whether people therein are following the Mask up initiative or not.
The officials also checked the passenger buses, private vehicles, two-wheelers, and others to see the public’s seriousness towards wearing masks and following Covid19 guidelines.
“The initiative to impose fine and keep a tight check on people for wearing masks is imperative as it will also encourage people who are negligent and do not show a collective responsibility towards the implementation of Covid19 guidelines and do not mask up at public places,” said Ali.
However, the SMC officials also fined some persons for not wearing masks during their presence in the city centre to make people follow the Mask up initiative which started in full swing from Friday, January 1.
As per the SMC officials, the campaign will continue till all people get habitual of wearing face masks while venturing out and also follow other norms including social distancing set under Covid19 guidelines. (KNB)
