Locals of Agrikalan Magam Demand Upgradation of Road

KNB News Desk

Srinagar 23 August (KNB): Akrikalan Magam residents on Monday demanded for an upgradation of a road falling in New Colony area, near Jamia Masjid.

The aggrieved residents of New Colony area of Akrikalan said that the road in their area is inconvenient to walk over as it is being laid with only gravel, which protrudes out and causes problems to them while walking.

They said that the elders and children are facing undue problems due to the uneven condition of the road, which is covered with only gravel and has not even been rolled properly.

“We have been waiting for quite some time now but no one is paying heed to us. The road looks in deterioration despite its gravelling and has become bugbear for the residents, said a local.

He alleged that the contractor, mandated to work on the road, was not taking his duty seriously and was directing the material destined for the road to some other area. “Last time in the month of Ramzan some work was done on it but later discontinued, which we could not understand why,” the local said.

The locals also said the road is open at some parts, revealing the drain, which could lead to any hazardous incident if not taken care of.

“There are at present a few pregnant women in the area, and in an emergency, given the present condition of the road, any tragedy is possible,” locals voiced their concerns

On contacting Exen R&B of the area regarding the issue, he assured that he will look into the matter and would depute an official to the spot to look into the matter.

He further said that the issue would be resolved in a couple of days. (KNB)
