LMD Recovers Fine of Rs 3.5 Lakh from an Automobile Company

Srinagar 1 April (KNB): Legal Metrology Department (LMD) Srinagar on Thursday collected a fine of Rs. 3.5 lakh from the Automobile Sale and Service Company for overcharging from the customers on spare parts.

As per a statement issued to Kashmir News Bureau, the fine was recovered during an inspection conducted under the supervision of Deputy Controller Enforcement Kashmir, Muzaffar Wani

During the inspection at one such outlet of the company, it was found that the spare parts sold to the customers were in contravention of the Legal Metrology Laws.

The Labels on the packaged products containing the declarations like MRP, Date of Packing etc, were hidden by pasting a new label upon them due to which the MRP was hiked to a great extent.

It is pertinent to mention here that under Legal Metrology Packaged Commodities Rules 2011, every packaged product shall clearly bear the MRP, Date of Packing, Manufacturers Address, Customer Care Number etc. on them.
Pasting stickers and hiding any declaration by a new declaration is an offence under the Legal Metrology Act.

Moreover, It was given out that as soon the matter was brought into the Notice of the company, their representatives readily responded and accepted all the charges and pleaded for compounding of this Case departmentally.

All the directors of the Company were therefore booked and the collective penal sum was collected as fine.

Meanwhile, the customers have been advised to check the MRP on the products before their purchase and in case of any discrepancy, the same may be brought into the notice of the Legal Metrology Department. (KNB)
