Srinagar, Jan 20 (KNB): Notwithstanding the protests over the abduction, rape and murder of an 8-yrs-old girl Asifa in Kathua, a shutdown is being observed in Kupwara town of north Kashmir over the abduction of another girl by a non-local trader, last week.

Reports said that the accused textile merchant Zubair Ahmad from Uttar Pradesh had abducted a local girl. The police later arrested the accused, who was subsequently let off on bail after three days of his arrest.”We want non-locals to carry on their businesses here. With this shutdown we want to send a message across that they (non locals) should refrain from immoral acts,” said Hafizullah Bakshi, President of Traders Federation Kupwara.

The police has assured the people of proper action and also appealed for maintaining peace in the area.

Meanwhile protests are continuing in length and breadth of Jammu province over the abduction, rape and murder of an 8-yrs-old Gujar girl Asifa. (KNB)
