Srinagar November 2 (KNB): The killing of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader and his elder brother by some unknown gunmen has created an outrage in the kishtwar district of Jammu region.

According to the official, Anil Parihar, state secretary of BJP and his elder brother, Ajit Parihar were shot dead in Kishtwar town on Thursday evening, while returning home after closing their stationary shop located outside old DC office complex. The assailants fired at the duo from point-blank range near the Veterinary hospital, he said.

After hearing the gunshots, the locals rushed to the spot and shifted them to the district hospital where they were declared brought dead, he added.

As the news of their killing unfurled, the locals held protests against the alleged failure of the administration and the police. The angry protestors even manhandled senior police officials.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Angrez Singh Rana imposed curfew in Kishtwar town and issued “shoot at sight” orders as a result of the tense situation.

According to the reports, Rana told the situation was tense but under control. “The Army staged a flag march in Kishtwar town in order to maintain law and order,” said Rana.

He further said there were no reports of any inconvenience.

As per the reports, the internet services have been reduced to 2G for the precautionary measure.

The Sanatan Dharm Sabha and Vishwa Hindu Parishad organisations had called for shutdown on Friday across Chenab Valley region over the killing.

The killings of the Parihar brothers drew grievous condemnation from all sides. The Home minister, Rajnath Singh condemned the killings through his twitter handle. “My heart goes out to the bereaved family. Spoke to advisor to J&K Governor, Vijay Kumar regarding the incident. The police will leave no stone unturned to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Singh wrote on his handle.

On the other hand, Former Chief Minister and National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah took to twitter and wrote: “Very sad news. My condolences to Anil & Ajit Parihar’s family & colleagues. May their souls rest in peace.”

Former Chief Minister and the president of People’s Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the killing. She wrote on Twitter, “The Condemn killing of BJP State Sec & his brother at Kishtwar last night. In a very short span of time this is the third incident of killing of political workers. These killings are followed by counter threats of violence to avenge their deaths, which clearly is not working.”

However, it is for the first time any BJP leader has been killed after the formation of BJP government in the state.

Meanwhile, police has registered the case and further investigation has been started. (KNB)
