Kathua Case: Social organizations jointly lay out demands

Srinagar, April 14 (KNB): Hundreds of activist from social organizations including J&K RTI Movement, Civil Society for Justice & Development, and Youth Gujjer Conference jointly on Saturday at Press colony Srinagar the held a forceful protest against the brutal rape and murder of eight year old Kathua Child. Pertinent to mention here, these are the first groups who initiated Campaign “Justice for Asifa” for the first time in Valley forcing other Civil Society groups to break the silence over the brutal incident.

While participated by scores of people the protesters demanded that the case be transferred to Srinagar High Court and the decision of case on fast track basis. They also demanded registering of cases against lawyers who stopped crime branch from filing the charge sheet in the case. The protestors also demanded that Deepika, who is lawyer of victim be given security and a stringent action against Jammu Bar for taking inhuman stand over the case.

While talking to the Kashmir News Bureau , Chairman J&K RTI Movement Dr Sheikh Ghulam Rasool stated – “If Government means its words it should act on its words and ensure swift justice in the case of heinous crime committed against the Kathua Child. The uncivilized communal tactics should end and those who have supported beasts be taken to task.”

“State is becoming too callous when it comes to the security of citizens particularly girls and women. With the brutal rape and murder of Aasifa the incumbency of government and police is evident. We need to struggle for justice and bring the culprits to book,” said Mushtaq ul Haq Sikandar.

Besides, Dr Sheikh Ghulam Rasool and Mushtaq ul Haq Sikhander, Youth Gujjer leader Zahid Parvaiz, Fayaz Karnae, Yaseen Poswal, Shameem Ahmed Shah and others also participated in the protest.

On January 17 Asifa a girl from Bakarwal community was kidnapped from Rasana village. She was found in Jammu’s Kathua. It was reported that the girl had been abducted, sedated and repeatedly gang-raped before she was strangled to death, her head smashed with a stone. (KNB)
