Srinagar, Dec 12(KNB): Cold wave conditions intensified across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Thursday as most places in the Valley recorded minimum temperatures below the freezing point, with several stations dipping to season’s lowest.
According to the data compiled by Kashmir Weather, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of –3.6°C, marking another frigid morning for the summer capital. In the Jammu region, winter also tightened its grip. Jammu city and its airport recorded 8.5°C, while Katra settled at 9.4°C Sub-zero conditions were absent, but several districts saw a significant dip overnight.
In Ladakh, the cold remained severe with Leh plunging to –7.8°C, followed closely by Kargil at –7.0°C and Nubra Valley at –6.3°C, making it one of the coldest regions in the entire northern belt.
The continuous drop in temperatures has led to the formation of frost on roads and frozen water bodies in parts of Kashmir, while residents brace for further chill as the region approaches the harsh ‘Chillai Kalan’ period later this month.(KNB)
