J&K’s Eminent Poet, Writer Padma Sachdev Dies at 81

Srinagar 04 August (KNB): An eminent writer and novelist from J&K, Padma Sachdev died at her residence in Mumbai on Wednesday at the age of 81. 

Padma Sachdev was first modern woman poet of the Dogri language and had published several poetry collections, including Meri Kavita Mere Geet (My Poems, My Songs), which won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1971. 

Sachdev had also worked in All India Radio, Jammu as an announcer since 1961. She had also received the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award in 2001. 

On her demise, LG Manoj Sinha tweeted that “Saddened to learn about the passing away of Shri Padma Sachdev Ji, the celebrated writer, poetess, and novelist from J&K. She made rich contributions to Dogri and Hindi Literature. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family members, well-wishers.” (KNB)
