Srinagar, August 23, 2023: The Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council’s week-long celebration of National Sports Day is in full swing, with numerous exciting events and activities taking place across the union territory. The festivities, centered around the theme of “Inclusive and Fit Society,” are set to run until August 29, and they are leaving a mark in all twenty districts.
Throughout this eventful week, the Sports Council has been encouraging participation in a diverse array of sporting disciplines, some of which have not graced the region in decades. This emphasis on diverse sports is aimed at promoting inclusivity and ensuring that the passion for physical fitness spreads far and wide.
To document and celebrate these activities, managers, coaches, and field staff have been diligently capturing videos and photos of the events, furthering the council’s mission to showcase the importance of physical fitness and sporting excellence.
Divulging the details of this extensive celebration, the Secretary of the J&K Sports Council stated, “We are proud to host sporting events in many disciplines, including some that haven’t been organized for decades. Our special focus is on promoting para, contemporary, and indigenous sports, which reflect the rich sporting heritage of our region.”
One of the highlights of the week was the Kabbadi, Skipping-rope, and Volleyball matches held in Poonch district at Government Higher Secondary School Loran. The presence of Surinder Kumar Sharma, the school’s principal, and the enthusiastic support from the local community demonstrated the unity and enthusiasm for sports, even in the border regions.
In Srinagar, the 13th District Taekwondo Championships concluded successfully at the Indoor Hall, Polo Ground. Divisional Sports Officer Muzaffar Hussain Wani and Under Secretary to the Government Forest Department Rouf Ahmed Bhat graced the occasion. Their words of encouragement and praise for medalists and participants resonated deeply, fostering a sense of accomplishment and motivation for future endeavors.
The council took this opportunity to honor Para Athlete Sultan, who is gearing up for the World Para Taekwondo Championship, and Sadia Tariq, an accomplished International Wushu player and former Taekwondo Athlete of J&K. Their achievements exemplify the potential and talent within the region.
The technical team, led by Master Atul Pangotra, an international referee in WT, ensured the smooth running of the championship. These district-level medalists are now poised to compete in the forthcoming 26th J&K UT Taekwondo Championships-2023, promising even more exciting sports action in the near future.
