J&K making excellence in sports: Sarmad Hafeez

Srinagar, June 10: Secretary Youth Service and Sports Sarmad Hafiz on Saturday said that J&K is making excellence in the field of sports.

Speaking during the inaugural function of Inter-School Football Tournament organized by Frisk Film Productions and ANN News, Hafeez who was chief guest on the occasion, said that J&K is now hosting various national events.

“I congratulate Frisk Films and ANN News for organizing this tournament. It is first that local news channel is telecasting all matches of the tournament live on Tv and lakhs of game lovers are entertaining through it,” he said.

He lauded the efforts of schools in imparting the spirit of sportsmanship among students.

“With quality education, to inbuilt the spirit of sportsmanship among students is equally important. I congratulate all schools and academies parting in this tournament” he said.

He said that the government has taken various initiatives’ to promote sports activities and improve infrastructure. “In recent years, we have built a lot of infrastructure. Dear students and players, make your name in the game, make J&K and our country proud,” he added.

He said that infrastructure and turfs have been built for football, hockey, basketball. “We are witnessing a lot of participation in sports and a lot of people from J&K are representing the country in different sports,” he added.

Speaking to media persons at the sidelines of the event, Secretary J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul said that a lot is being done on ground to enhance the professional skills of players in different games. “The object is to produce the players in J&K who would represent our country at international level. The sports activities are also important to keep our teenagers and youth away from drug menace. The Sports Council will welcome institutions and would extend every help who organizes such sports activities,” she said.

Gul lauded the efforts of Frisk Flims and ANN News for organizing and telecasting all matches of this football tournament live on TV.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Aijaz Assad was guest of honour on the occasion.

The first match was played between Oak Hill Institute Education Syed Abad Soiteng and Iqra Educational Institute. Oak Hill beat its rival by 1-3.
