Srinagar, May 14 (KNB): National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Thursday welcomed Iran’s inclusion in the upcoming BRICS Summit, terming it a positive development and expressing hope that the bloc would collectively work towards ensuring peace and stability in the Middle East.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Abdullah said the BRICS nations should use their collective influence to ease tensions and promote dialogue in the region. He described Iran’s participation in the summit as a “good step” and hoped member countries would jointly push for restoring peace in the Middle East.
He further said that major global powers must play a constructive role in maintaining regional stability and resolving conflicts through diplomatic means.
Commenting on recent statements by RSS leaders advocating dialogue, Dr. Abdullah said he was encouraged to see voices favouring talks, asserting that “war is not an option” and that dialogue remains the only viable path forward.
On the issue of reducing official cavalcades, Dr. Abdullah termed the move a welcome and positive step. (KNB)
