Indra Nagar Residents Suffer Due to Low Voltage Electricity

Srinagar 1 December (KNB): The inhabitants of Indra Nagar, Lane No. 22, Sector (B)  (B B Cantt) Sonwar have been shivering due to harsh winters and facing immense difficulties as the long pending problem of low voltage electricity still remains unresolved.

A resident Mohd Wasiq Shah told Kashmir News Bureau that since the arrival of winters, the voltage of electricity has been the lowest, due to which inhabitant of the area are suffering day in and out.

“Lowest voltage of electricity is being supplied to our homes, in fact the step-up transformer at my home is showing zero input,” he said.

He added, “Due to this low voltage input our step-up transformer got damaged several times, many other families around are facing the same problem.”

Wasiq said, “I’m young and can manage it without electricity but there are others in my family having medical conditions, they are not able to do anything.”

He further said that for days our water heaters are off and now we can’t even wash faces cause the water is too cold.

Due to low voltage and fluctuations many electrical appliances/ gadgets have been damaged in the area.
“Besides the damaged caused to the electrical gadgets, our children are not able to study properly in such low voltage, that too when everything has to be done digitally,” Wasiq said.

The resident further said that despite appeals to the concerned authority to resolve the issue of low voltage in the area, no actions has been taken yet.

Talking to Kashmir News Bureau Chief Engineer PDD Aijaz Ahmad said, ”Low voltage issue comes up usually during the winters here and mainly the reason is excessive use of load by consumers.”

He added, “People must cooperate and use the electric appliances judiciously and then the voltage will surely improve”, adding that the major reason behind the voltage drop in different areas of the valley, is the illegal use of load by the neighbors.

He further assured that an inspection team is going to visit the area and look in the matter tomorrow. (KNB)
