Srinagar, Mar 7 (KNB): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Friday that the government plans to engage 75 lakh youth in sports activities, aiming to promote a culture of fitness and excellence in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, the CM revealed several new initiatives to boost sports infrastructure in the J&K like establishment of national centres of excellence for water sports at Dal Lake in Srinagar and Basohli in Jammu.
Additionally, a Gymnastics Academy will be set up at Gindun Rajbagh, while Khel Gaon in Nagrota will serve as a training hub for aspiring gymnasts, he said.
To nurture cricketing talent, the government has allocated Rs 28 crore for the construction of four Cricket Academies. Furthermore, two new Youth Hostels, one in each division of Jammu and Kashmir, will be built with an allocation of Rs 10 crore.
The CM also outlined plans to develop high-performance training centers in every district, aimed at enhancing athletic training and performance at the grassroots level. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to encourage sports participation and excellence throughout the union territory.(KNB)
