Srinagar 19 March (KNB): Former minister for food, civil supplies and consumer affairs Mohammad Ashraf Mir has strongly condemned the gruesome killing of Awantipora resident who has been reportedly killed mercilessly by the state police in the police custody who according to the people was arrested by the police. This horrific incident sends shivers down the spine of every inhabitant of the valley.
Expressing deep sympathies with the bereaved family for this irrepressible loss and has prayed for peace and highest elevation in ranks of jannat for the departed soul.
It is very bad from the security point of view that such noble person by teacher in profession lost his life in police custody which demand action and investigation thoroughly and book the culprit behind the bars, Mohd Ashraf Mir demanded.
As the Kashmir is already passing through the most volatile phase, security establishments have to behave morally as well as socially, but such odd events will only augment the sufferings of the people.
Hon’ble Supreme court and international bodies have already set up guide lines with regard to halt the harsh treatment with the custodian. But, it is very unfortunate that such kinds of gruesome incidents are happening despite the guide lines of the Human rights Commission in vogue.

Mir further emphasized that when (SOP) Standard Operating procedure is not followed in the proper way, such kind of incidents will happen on regular basis and may become more vulnerable to abuse and also encourage some officials to go for further mistreatment with the inmates, as they have belief that their ill treatment will be backed up.
Mir said that the killers of the teacher in the police custody be identified and brought to the camera and strict punishment should be given, so that it serves a deterrence to others.
