Five People Die in Fire at Serum Institute of India

Pune 21 January(KNB): Five people have died in a massive fire at Serum Institute of India’s (SII) vaccine manufacturing plant in Hadapsar Pune today.

A massive fire broke out in an under-construction building at Pune’s SII, which is the world’s largest vaccine maker.

5 people lost their lives in the incident, while as officials made it clear that the blaze did not affect the institute’s Covid-19 vaccine manufacturing facility.

Later, fire fighters were able to combat and extinguish fire.

Serum chief Adar Poonawalla also expressed condolences for the loss of lives.
“We have just received some distressing updates; upon further investigation, we have learnt that there has unfortunately been some loss of life at the incident. We are deeply saddened and offer our deepest condolences to the family members of the departed,” tweeted Poonawalla. (KNB)
