FAA Ms Mathoora Masoom Takes Swift Action, Suspends PIO of Municipal Committee Magam for Non-Compliance with RTI Act

Directs Other PIOs to Comply within Ten Days

Srinagar June 20 (KNB): The J&K RTI Foundation commends the decisive actions of Ms. Mathoora Masoom, the First Appellate Authority (FAA) Office Director, Urban Local Bodies Kashmir.

In an exemplary display of commitment, Ms. Masoom suspended the Public Information Officer (PIO) of Municipal Committee Magam for their failure to adhere to the obligations outlined in the RTI Act. She further directed all other PIOs to provide the requested information within ten days.

Er. Irfan Banka, the founder of the J&K RTI Foundation and the appellant in this case, expresses his sincere appreciation to Ms. Mathoora Masoom for her resolute dedication to ensuring timely responses to RTI requests and holding officials accountable.

The suspended official, designated as the PIO of Municipal Committee Magam under the provisions of the RTI Act, neglected their responsibilities by failing to provide a response to an RTI application filed in 2022. This flagrant violation underscores the need to address such lapses promptly, safeguarding the fundamental right of citizens to access information.

Ms. Mathoora Masoom demonstrated unwavering commitment and integrity by promptly addressing the first appeal on 19 June 2023. Her swift action resulted in the suspension of the non-compliant PIO, signaling a strong message that non-compliance with the RTI Act will not be tolerated. Additionally, recognizing the importance of timely responses to RTI applications, Ms. Masoom directed all other PIOs present to provide the requested information within ten days.
