Encroachment in Housing Colony; nexus of Housing Board with brokers: allege locals

Srinagar 10 October (KNB): In the Housing colony of Baghi Mehtab, an old house purchased by some brokers, in the garb of repairs and renovations have encroached upon three feet of the road, locals said.

“They have encroached upon three feet of the road and on questioning they threatened us, told us that anyone who raises their voice will have to face dire consequences,” local residents said.

Another resident of the colony told KNB that construction of the wall is taking place on public property.
“The Housing Board is acting blind about it, there is a clear nexus between them and these brokers,” he added.

“All the members of our Welfare committee had a meeting yesterday, and together we approached the Housing Board regarding this encroachment issue, after which they visited the place but hardly any action was taken against the people involved in this illegal construction, which is still going on,” a local said.

One of the residents added that they had also contacted the Ward officer of the municipality, who refused to act on this issue stating that it doesn’t fall under their jurisdiction, rather they should contact the officials of Housing Board.

To know more about the issue, Kashmir News Bureau tried to contact the Housing Board officials but their numbers was either switched off or not reachable. (KNB)
