Srinagar, March 27, 2024 – Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, Chairperson of the Jammu & Kashmir Waqf Board, conducted a significant inspection at the historic Pather Masjid in Srinagar’s old city.
As the site is owned by the Waqf Board and protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Dr. Andrabi’s visit marked the first such inspection by a Board head.
Upon her arrival, Dr. Andrabi was greeted warmly by the local populace, reflecting the deep reverence and connection the community holds for the Masjid.
Engaging with representatives of the local society, discussions centered around enhancing facilities for worshippers and addressing the fundamental restoration requirements essential for the preservation of this historical gem.
Dr. Andrabi wasted no time in issuing directives to the Waqf Board authorities, mandating the arrangement of new, elegant matting for the entire prayer area ahead of the upcoming Eid festival. This initiative underscores the commitment to provide a conducive environment for prayer and communal gatherings.
In a notable announcement, Dr. Andrabi affirmed the intention to pursue the restoration proposal for the historic Masjid with the ASI promptly. Recognizing the Masjid’s continued significance as a living prayer center, Dr. Andrabi commended the local community for their efforts in maintaining the site’s cleanliness and upkeep.
