DGP Chairs High-Level Security Review Meeting Ahead of Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2026

Directs Agencies to Strengthen Security Grid, Intensify Anti-Terror Operations and Ensure Smooth Conduct of Yatra, Muharram

Srinagar, June 23 (KNB): Director General of Police (DGP) Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Nalin Prabhat (IPS), on Tuesday chaired a high-level security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir to assess preparedness for the forthcoming Shri Amarnathji Yatra (SANJY)-2026.

The meeting was attended by senior officers of the Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Intelligence Agencies and Jammu and Kashmir Police, including Corps Commanders, Inspector Generals, Deputy Inspectors General, Senior Superintendents of Police and other senior security officials from across Jammu and Kashmir.

During the meeting, officers briefed the DGP on the security arrangements and preparedness put in place to ensure the smooth, peaceful and incident-free conduct of the annual pilgrimage. The DGP also reviewed facilities being arranged for the safety, security and convenience of the pilgrims.

Emphasising the need for a robust security framework, Shri Nalin Prabhat directed all agencies to strengthen security measures at vulnerable points, particularly along the Yatra routes and other sensitive locations. He also instructed officials to revisit and reinforce security arrangements on the National Highway and railway infrastructure.

The DGP stressed strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and directed that daily briefings be conducted for all deployed personnel to maintain operational readiness and situational awareness. He further instructed officers to launch awareness campaigns at Yatra camps to educate pilgrims about safety protocols through banners, posters and other information material highlighting important Do’s and Don’ts.

Highlighting the importance of vigilance, Shri Nalin Prabhat said there was no room for complacency in the security grid and called upon all officers and personnel to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and preparedness.

He also stressed close coordination among all security and intelligence agencies, directing them to ensure timely sharing of information and intelligence inputs. The DGP instructed security forces to work jointly and intensify efforts to neutralise the remaining terrorists and their associates active in the Valley. He also called for enhanced cordon and search operations around Yatra routes, National Highway stretches, railway stations and other critical locations.

The DGP further directed officers to maintain strict surveillance on social media platforms and take prompt action against misinformation, fake narratives and rumours aimed at creating panic among the public.

The meeting also reviewed security and administrative arrangements for the forthcoming Muharram observances. Shri Nalin Prabhat directed officers to ensure adequate security measures while maintaining close coordination with local Shia organisations. He stressed the importance of smooth conduct of Muharram processions and instructed the concerned officers to formulate comprehensive traffic management plans. He also directed that procession routes be publicised well in advance to minimise inconvenience to the public.

The meeting concluded with all participating agencies reaffirming their commitment to ensuring the safe, secure and peaceful conduct of Shri Amarnathji Yatra-2026 and other forthcoming religious events across Jammu and Kashmir. (KNB)
