Srinagar 21 Jan (KNB): From last few years, Kashmir Valley faced the wrath of conflict and violence specially South Kashmir in all aspects, the most affected sector was education but in the recent Board examination of 10th and 12th class, south Kashmir’s youth shined in both examinations.
South Kashmir has been a hotbed of current unrest in Kashmir where education comes to a halt on daily basis. But despite such hardships, the schools in many districts of South Kashmir like Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag believed that classes must go on. Frequent encounters,hartals and internet blockade are the common day business in South Kashmir. But student community of south Kashmir believe that education is the only weapon to bring normalcy in Kashmir and especially in South Kashmir.
It came as a surprise for everyone, when Pulwama and Shopian bagged highest pass percentage among all of districts in valley
Talking to KNB, a research scholar of Kashmir University,who belongs to Shopian district said that “Securing 300 marks by a student of south Kashmir is equal to 400 marks of any other district’s student, keeping in view the prevalent situation.”
Despite getting such good percentage, I firmly believe that they could have done better, had there been no encounters and internet shutdowns during their peak days of exam.

It also brings home the idea that no matter what happens, education should always be of paramount importance.”
Directorate of school education, G N yatoo said, ”Students of the South Kashmir were academically committed, with their hard work and dedication they outshined the other districts of the Valley.”
“The credit goes to the students despite the difficulties they worked hard and set an example for other students. He well wished them for the upcoming professional entrance examination and future.”
According a government data, in 2018, schools in Pulwama district were shut for 170 days and, in Shopian they were closed for 118 days by the administration due to fear of disturbance. This shutdown was apart from the number of regular holidays that the students got .(KNB)
