Anantnag 27 June (KNB): At a time when there is dire need of infrastructure in school education department, the official apathy of officers of school education has turned the Government Girls Middle School, Bon Dialgam as hub of drug addicts.

Barely 3 km’s away from main town Anantnag, a state of art building has been abandoned by the school education department for the reasons best known to them which has been the asylum to the drug addicts and permanent shelter for nomad people who came to here to rear their cattle’s.4

Sources told to KNB that the middle school has two structures, the windows and doors of the structures had broken and has lot of smoking packets surfaced on the class rooms. The defunct school building sometimes becomes a permanent shelter for nomads. Sources added.

However locals told to KNB that the school became defunct in 2017 after its student ratio dropped With a total roll of 24 students, some eight to ten teachers had been posted here.

Given the overall less roll of this school. Strength dropped to zero. The officials decided to close it down. The school was merged with nearby boy’s middle school where nine teachers had posted to teach a total of 34 students.

We request several times to District administration to convert the building into a dispensary or shift some office into it, but all goes in vain, locals added.
Meanwhile when contacted  Chief Education Officer Anantnag Nasir Ahmad  said that they can’t give NOC of school buildings to any other department because this property belongs to education department, we will look into the matter and check the building and the defunct building will be used for BRC (Block Resource Center).
