Day 4: Shutdown & restriction in parts of Kashmir against civilian killings, teenager succumbs, JRL asked masses to resume work

Srinagar, May 08 (KNB): For the fourth consecutive day the people Kashmir observed complete shutdown against the ‘gruesome’ civilian killings in parts of Valley at the hands of government forces. Besides mobile internet blockage, the authorities in a bid to thwart any protests imposed strict restriction several areas including in Old City Srinagar. Meanwhile, a teenager identified Safeel Ahmed, resident of Nagbal, Shopian injured in forces indiscriminate firing succumbs to his injuries at a hospital in Srinagar taking the toll of civilians killed in last four days to seven.

Pertinently, on Saturday and Sunday seven militants 3 in Srinagar and five in South Kashmir were gunned down by the government forces which erupts Valley wide protests.

Life in Kashmir was crippled for fourth consecutive day on Tuesday as shop and business establishments were closed and traffic was off the roads in valley due to the strike called by JRL against the killing of civilians in security force firing.

Meanwhile, Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik while terming the present prevailing situation in Kashmir as extremely worrisome and painful for every citizen stated that Kashmir has been turned into graveyard of Kashmiris where each day we have to shoulder the coffins of our dear ones brutally killed by Government forces.

JRL asked people to resume their work from tomorrow May 9, 2018. It appealed people of all walks of life that include employees, lawyers, teaches, traders and transporters and others to continue their protest and resentment against unabated killings by government forces by wearing black badges on arms and fixing black flags atop houses, shops and vehicles.

JRL also urged the Imams of all the mosques, shrines and Imam Baras to offer funeral prayers in absentia for the martyrs of Shopian and Srinagar after congregational Friday prayers on May 11 and to read and pass a JRL resolution.

The leadership said that unabated killing of civilians is a critical concern for the nation and JRL had met last week to deliberate upon it and was going to take the public on board regarding the deliberations but the authorities did not allow them to do so as they were again detained. JRL said once the leadership gets to meet future course of action regarding the issue will be shared and inputs taken. (KNB)
