Cop Left ‘Critically Injured’ in Militant Attack

Srinagar 01 February (KNB): An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Jammu and Kashmir Police was left injured on Tuesday evening in South Kashmir Shopian’s Amshijipora area after militants opened fire on him.

The attack took place in the evening in the Amshijipora area of Shopian when a suspected militant opened fire on the ASI, who was returning home after praying at a mosque in the locality. The cop was left critically injured in the incident.  

In wake of the attack, the injured cop was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. The injured ASI was identified as Shabir Ahmad Wagay s/o Gh Hassan Wagay, a resident of Amshijipora Shopian.

However, police said the injured ASI was later on referred to Srinagar for advanced treatment and the area, where the attack took place, was cordoned off to nab the militants. (KNB)
