Commissioner SMC Takes Review of Snow Clearance, Dewatering Progress

Srinagar 8 January (KNB): Commissioner SMC Gazanfar Ali took review of snow clearance and dewatering progress in Srinagar city.

A statement issued to Kashmir News Bureau said that a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner SMC Gazanfar Ali at Municipal central office Karan Nagar, to review and take update on snow clearance Progress in Srinagar city.

During the meeting it was informed that Srinagar Municipal Corporation has cleared snow from Hospitals, inner lanes/bye lanes (Kochas), footpaths, Shrines, Mosques, Temples, Gurdwaras, Essential Departments viz Ration Ghats, Primary Health Centres etc. through existing staff of 2700 Sanitation Workers.

Officials stated that it was also updated in the meeting that 78 per cent snow has been cleared from all Municipal Wards upto 12 Noon dated 8th of January 2021 and mechanically 75 per cent through JCBs/Loaders.

“In view of the heavy snowfall SMC hired 15 JCBs in addition to its own 19 JCBs/Loaders with effect from 5th of January and started night snow clearance operation as well, which is still in progress,” the statement read.

The snow clearance will continue till all lanes/bye lanes etc. are cleared for facilitating the general masses, officials stated.

“Besides this SMC has received 430 grievances regarding snow clearance which were redressed accordingly,” the statement said.

While reviewing dewatering Gazanfar Ali was informed that 85 permanent dewatering pumps are functional 24×7, 34 mobile dewatering pumps have been already installed at vulnerable places.

He was further informed, “83 dewatering mobile pumps are ready for deployment as and when required for any place in Srinagar City,” adding that adequate POL has been provided to above mentioned dewatering stations/mobile pumps, so that pumps remain operational even in absence of electricity facility.

Ali was also informed that 15 Municipal Sucker Jetting Machines are also put on job for dewatering purpose.

As per the statement, the meeting was attended by Joint Commissioner Works Ishtiyaq Ahmed Shah , S.E Drainage Ahsaan ul Haq, Secretary SMC Sofi Akbar, Xen Mech Itrat Naseem, Chief Sanitation Officer Mudasir Banday, Chief Transport Officers Syed Nisar, all Enforcement officers and others. (KNB)
