Srinagar, July 13 (KNB): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday congratulated Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo, the faculty and administrations of Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar, and Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, after the National Medical Commission (NMC) approved 50 additional MBBS seats for each institution.
The Chief Minister said the increase in intake capacity, which will take effect from the 2026–27 academic session, marks a significant milestone in strengthening medical education in the Union Territory.
He said the expansion reflects the government’s commitment to improving medical education infrastructure and creating greater opportunities for aspiring doctors across Jammu and Kashmir.
With the latest approval, both GMC Srinagar and GMC Jammu will witness an increase in their annual MBBS intake, a move expected to benefit hundreds of medical aspirants and further enhance the healthcare education ecosystem in the region. (KNB)
