Class 12 Board Results: Pass percentage worst in a decade

Srinagar, Jan 09(KNB): Kashmir division has recorded the worst result of 12th standard (Regular) examination in the last ten years.

This year Kashmir division witnessed an overall result of 51.77 percent of the 12th standard, lowest pass percentage since 2008, when it was still 2 percent higher than this year’s.

In the year 2008, the results of 12th standard (Regular) examination was 53.50 percent in which 43,183 students appeared in the examination out of which 23,102 candidates qualified the examination.

The 51.77 pass percentage this time has worsened by almost 10 percent as compared to last year.

The apparently higher pass percentage of 75.47 in the annual examination of 2016 was because of relaxation in syllabus by the government, due to the valley-wide uprising that took place after the killing of Hizb commander Burhan Wani in July 2016.

Rounded off, the pass percentage in Class 12 exams in both 2009 and 2010 was 55, while the pass percentage was 59 for both 2011 and 2012.

For 2013, 2014 and 2015, the pass percentages had been 52, 55, and 57, respectively.

The Class 12 exams of 2003 recorded the lowest pass percentage of 48.89. This year’s pass percentage is less than 3 percent higher.

While the candidates appearing in Class 12 annual examination rose by 40,436 (29,546 in 2003 to 69,982 in 2018 session) in the past 16 years, the number of candidates passing the examination has risen by only 21,781.
