Chairman SSB Rajesh Sharma Honors Winners: Haryana Clinches Junior and Sub-Junior Sanda Titles, Manipur and Tamil Nadu Victorious in Taolu Events

Jammu,31 march (KNB): In a display of exceptional Wushu skills, Haryana secured top honors at the Khelo India Junior and Sub Junior Girls Wushu Championship held in Jammu.

The event, which took place from March 26 to March 31, 2024, witnessed fierce competition among around 700 women athletes from various states and union territories across the country.

Rajesh Sharma, Chairman J&K Service Selection Board was the chief guest on the occasion while as Bhanu Pratap Singh, Assistant Director SAI Incharge J&K as the guest of honor, the championship celebrated the prowess of young female athletes in the field of Wushu.

Haryana emerged as the champions in both the Junior and Sub Junior categories, showcasing their dominance in the sport. Additionally, Manipur claimed victory in the Sub Junior Girls Taolu event, while Tamil Nadu secured the title in the Junior Girls Taolu category.

The closing ceremony, graced by dignitaries including Vijay Saraf, General Secretary Wushu Association of India and Kuldeep Handoo, Dhraunacharya Awardee and Chief Coach of India, celebrated the achievements of the athletes. Cash prizes totaling Rs 22 lakh were distributed among the winners, acknowledging their dedication and hard work.

Speaking at the event, Rajesh Sharma commended the initiative by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India and the Sports Authority of India to promote women’s sports across the nation. He emphasized the significance of such events in empowering women and fostering gender equality, while also serving as a platform to inspire budding athletes.

Bhanu Pratap Singh, Assistant Director SAI, praised the organizers for the successful conduct of the championship, highlighting its importance in nurturing sporting talent at the grassroots level.-KNB
