Budgam encounter: one militant caught alive, another escapes

Deserted SPO escapes from encounter site

Srinagar 16 October (KNB): One militant was apprehended during a gunfight in Chadoora area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

Officials told Kashmir News Bureau that one militant was caught alive with his AK-47 rifle during the gun-battle.  

He was accompanied by the SPO, who deserted a SOG camp Chadoora three days back with 2 AK-47 rifles, officials added.

Officials said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 55 RR and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Chadoora and as the team reached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering off an encounter.

Officials told KNB that the arrested militant has been identified as Jahangir Ahmad Bhat of Chadoora, who had recently joined the militancy.

Officials also confirmed that SPO Altaf Hassan managed to escape from encounter site during gun-battle. (KNB)
