Batamaloo Police Seize Domestic LPG Cylinders from Restaurants at Tengpora Chowk; FIR Registered

Srinagar, May 23(KNB): In a major crackdown against the misuse of subsidized domestic LPG cylinders, Jammu and Kashmir Police officials from Batamaloo Police Station on Friday conducted searches at several restaurants in the Tengpora Chowk area and seized multiple domestic gas cylinders allegedly being used for commercial purposes.

The drive was carried out in the presence of officials from Sona Traders as part of efforts to curb the illegal use of domestic LPG cylinders in eateries and other commercial establishments, officials told Kashmir News Bureau.

Officials said to news agency Kashmir News Bureau that several domestic cylinders were recovered during the inspections and seized on the spot. A case under relevant sections of the Essential Commodities Act has been registered, while further investigation has been taken up.

The action comes at a time when consumers in several areas are facing delays and difficulties in domestic gas refills and bookings. Locals have welcomed the move, stating that the misuse of subsidized cylinders by commercial establishments directly affects genuine domestic consumers.

Police officials said commercial establishments are legally bound to use commercial LPG cylinders and warned that strict action will continue against violators indulging in the unauthorized use of domestic gas cylinders.(KNB)
