Srinagar 30 January (KNB): As harsh winter period ‘Chillai Kallan’ prepares to bid farewell to Kashmir valley, Srinagar witnessed freezing conditions as -7.2 degrees celsius of temperature was recorded last night.
Showing no respite, temperatures in world famous tourist resorts Pahalgam and Gulmarg were recorded at minus 12.5 degrees celsius and minus 10 degrees celsius respectively.
As per official data, temperatures in other parts of the valley were recorded as minus 8.8 degrees celsius in Qazigund, minus 10.9 degrees celsius in Kokernag and Konibal recorded minus 10 degrees celsius.
Meanwhile, temperatures recorded in Kupwara was minus 3.7 degrees celsius, minus 4.5 degrees celsius in Bandipora and minus 4.8 degrees celsius in Sopore.
As per Met officials, Srinagar Airport recorded minus 9.4 degrees celsius, Awantipora recorded minus 11.9 degrees celsius, Anantnag recorded minus 9.4 degrees celsius and minus 6.2 degrees celsius was recorded in Budgam.
In Shopian minus 14.3 degrees celsius was recorded, Pulwama recorded minus 8.6 degrees celsius and Kulgam recorded minus 9.6 degrees celsius last night.
With bone chilling conditions in the Valley, sites of frozen taps, pipelines, water bodies and other water reservoirs are almost seen everywhere during the morning hours causing inconvenience to the people.
Pertinent to mention that 40 day period of Chillai Kallan is going to end tomorrow that is 31st of January and decline in temperature is expected afterwards. (KNB)
