Army Shifts Officers and Initiates Inquiry After Civilian Casualties in Surankote Operations

Poonch 25 Dec(KNB): In response to civilian casualties, the Army has taken action by reassigning a Brigadier and three senior officers from their roles within the unit overseeing operations in Surankote.

According to reports reaching to news agency KNB that, This move comes amid discussions of potential disciplinary measures following an internal inquiry. Meanwhile, authorities have initiated a police investigation, filing a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the incident.

Brigadier Padam Acharya, serving as the Brigade Commander of the Rashtriya Rifles, along with three other high-ranking Army officials, have been reassigned in the aftermath of the deaths of three civilians and injuries sustained by 10 others.

Although the Army has not officially disclosed details, reports indicate that the condition of the 10 injured individuals—five under care in Surankote and five in Poonch hospitals—is stable. Medical professionals are diligently tending to them, observing positive responses to treatment.

Police has taken steps to delve deeper into the civilian killing by launching an investigation through an FIR lodged at the concern police station.

Furthermore, the Army has initiated an internal inquiry to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the three civilians, prompted by allegations that they perished while in the Army’s custody.”(KNB)
