Amid sobs and tears Rafiabad youth laid to rest

Baramulla July 10(KNB):With moist eyes and slogans, Ubaid Manzoor Lone was laid to rest in his native village at Nadihal Rafiabad, Baramulla on Tuesday.

Thousands of mourners participated in the last rites of Ubaid Manzoor Lone, a civilian who was injured during protests on June 25 and succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS today morning.

Ubaid, 19, son of Manzoor Ahmad Lone, was a resident of Nadihal Rafiabad. He sustained a bullet injury in the thigh near abdomen after a party of BSF shot him during clashes that erupted near Nadihal during the Student protest.

Since June 25, Ubaid was on life support at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of SKIMS Soura. Doctors at SKIMS Soura told KNB that Ubaid succumbed to his bullet injuries on Tuesday morning.

“He had been taken off the ventilator. He was in the ward. He was talking,” said one doctor, adding that Ubaid may have died due to thromboembolism, in which a clot is formed in a blood vessel that breaks loose and is carried by the blood stream until it plugs another vessel.

“We were at home and came to know in the afternoon on that day (June 25) that Ubaid was returning from school when he was hit by a bullet shot by BSF troops of 149 batallion in his thigh and he got injured, while other students who were protesting escaped unhurt,” a close relative of Ubaid told Kashmir News Bureau.

He said,” Ubaid suffered excessive blood loss after being hit by the bullet. Ubaid was a class 11th student at Boys Higher Secondary school Baramulla.”

Ubaid was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Nadihal Rafiabad after people carried his body to the graveyard shouting pro-freedom, pro-Islam and anti-India slogans. Women, children and the elderly also participated in his funeral procession.People started thronging to his residence. A large number of women also reached his home.(KNB)
